Becoming Elder Ballard

Allow me to introduce you to my young friend, who each day is preparing to become... Elder Ballard! I met him this week while on my way to the temple.  He and his mom were taking pictures, and I must confess, he stole my heart!  With great enthusiasm, he shared that he was getting ready for a big day.  "What could that be?", I asked.

He replied, "Well, it comes after seven...", with a giant smile.  Honestly, I had no idea he was referring to his age.  This giant spirit in front of me was older than seven in my mind.  At that moment I was clueless.  So, I smiled back, and answered, "Seventy...".  He had such a mature and strong spirit, I thought he might have been called as a Seventy!  It could happen, couldn't it?  And, well, it is a number after seven!

"Noooo!", he said laughing.  "Eight!!!!  I'm going to be eight next month, and I'm going to be baptized!"  Oh boy!  I felt certain that he was going straight to the MTC.  Perhaps the missionary age had changed once again?  If so, he is one who is ready to share the Gospel now!  Look out world, here he comes!
